School District 13 started in Brule, Nebraska, in 2010. Jennifer and John Shipp, along with their daughter, Lydian Shipp, have always loved to travel. One day, after creating a corn maze near their parents home, the Shipp family pondered on the idea to make a haunted attraction; one that people could enjoy. The current School District 13 building was originally a local elementary school that was closed due to a lack of funding. It now houses a variety of spooky attractions. Since the opening of the attraction in 2010, patrons from surrounding towns, including towns in Colorado, have driven to Brule, Nebraska, to see just how scary the experience truly is.

Between the one week set-up process and three night showings, the Shipp family and all of their volunteers have a lot of excitement on their plates each year. Some say the school itself is haunted, but only few are given the opportunity to find that out while working with the Shipp family.

Every year, the Shipp family alters the attractions, that way patrons have the opportunity to return the following year and still be surprised by what happens within. This creates a truly unique experience for not only Nebraska natives but for those out of state patrons, as well.
